FAQ’s

Obvious signs your roof might need repairs include roof leaks, missing shingles, a sagging roofline, or other damage to the roofing materials/flashing.

There are also less obvious signs to watch for. If you notice a sudden increase in the cost of your energy bills, that could be a sign of insufficient insulation or ventilation in your roof.

Another factor to consider is the age of your roof. The older the roof, the more likely it is that it requires repairs. Roofs deteriorate over time, so even if you don’t see any obvious signs of damage, it might be a good idea to get a roof inspection and a free estimate for any repairs.

There are many factors that can inform you on when you should get a roof inspection.

Suspected damage. If you know or suspect there might be an issue with your roof, an inspection will give you clarity.

When buying or selling a property. As a buyer, you want to be informed of the overall roof condition before making a purchase. As a seller, knowing the state of your roof gives you an opportunity to address any concerns before selling

After a significant weather event. High winds and swinging temperatures are common in southern Alberta. Getting an inspection after a significant event can give you peace-of-mind that your roof is in sound condition, or allow you to address any issues before they become bigger problems.

Before and after roof replacements. Getting an inspection beforehand helps the roofing team know exactly what issues they should address when working on the replacement. Getting an inspection afterward gives you peace of mind to know that the replacement was done correctly and your roof is functioning properly

We offer roof inspections without any fees and without pushing unnecessary services, so you can get free roofing advice from our experts.

With so many roofing material options on the market, it can be hard to know which is the best choice for you. We offer a variety of roofing shingles options, metal roofing materials, and lifetime materials to suit different needs. Factors you should consider when selecting a material include your budget, the climate, the slope of your roof, the longevity you hope to get from your roof, and your desired aesthetics.

Our team can guide you through the process of considering each of these factors so you can confidently select the best option for your roof.

Metal roofing is a great option for those seeking a durable, stylish material for their roof. As metal roofing experts, we can confidently say that metal roofs typically have a longer lifespan, are resilient against the elements, and have great energy efficiency. They are also often crafted from recycled materials, making them an environmentally-friendly option for businesses and homeowners.

Metal roofing is an attractive option, but not suitable for every budget. As always, there are pros and cons. Chatting with a roofing company you trust can help you determine if it’s the best material for your roof.

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the longevity of a new roof depends on materials used and the wear it experiences in its lifetime. That being said, shingle roofs typically last between 20 and 50 years, depending on the type of product you select.

Metal roofs will typically last for 50 years.

At C&M Roofing, we also offer services with lifetime materials like rubber and composite, which are designed with longevity in mind. Although more expensive, these are designed to last a lifetime, and can save costs on replacements or roofing repairs in the long run.

We are happy to work with you and your insurance company on any claims related to damage your roof has sustained. The typical process for this is:

  1. 1. You contact us to do an inspection so we can assess the damage
  2. 2. You contact your insurance company about making the claim
  3. 3. We provide and hand off the quote for any repairs
  4. 4. We work with your insurance provider to complete repairs and close the claim

Sometimes, for minor damage that won’t be an expensive fix, it isn’t worth it to go through your insurance company. Once we do an inspection, we can provide recommendations that align with your specific case.

Having options for your roofing materials helps you make the right choice for your budget, style, and comfort. We use the following materials for our roofing projects:

Shingles (Economic, Standard, and Premium)

Metal materials

Lifetime materials (Rubber, Composite, Shakes, and Tile)

Flat Roofing

Some roofing products are made to last longer than others, and will subsequently be more expensive. Put consideration into the needs of your region, climate, and budget before committing to one material. Or ask our team to discuss your options — we’re always happy to help!

A common misconception about metal roofs is that they’re extra noisey during rain and hailstorms. The truth is, the noise of a metal roof is comparable to that of a shingled roof.

It is worth noting that metal roofs built with lower gauge materials may prove louder in a storm. If noise is something you’re worried about with your roof replacement, opt for a material with a thicker gauge. This will ensure that there is a greater sound barrier between you and any weather events.

No matter the material you choose for your roof, you will typically be able to hear powerful storms and other common noises. That is true for all roofing materials, not just metal ones. Noise protection is something you can consider when selecting the material that’s best for you. There are many options — metal and otherwise — that will reduce sound caused by precipitation.

The cost of a roof replacement depends on a variety of factors, including square footage, materials used, existing roof damage, and labour costs.

When you’re trying to plan your budget for a re-roof project, there is a useful calculation you can use as a starting point. Roofing materials come priced by square foot, so if you know the size of your roof, you can multiply that by the price per square foot of your preferred material.

Square footage of your house X Price per square foot = Materials cost

This calculation will help you estimate the cost of materials. Labour costs will cost extra on top of that. If you know that your single-family home is 1,200 sq. ft., and your shingle of choice costs $4.50 per square foot, you can multiply 1,200 sq. ft. by $4.50 to get $5,400.

Getting an inspection and quote is the best place to start if you’re considering getting your roof replaced. That way, you know exactly what you’re looking at ahead of time.

Getting a roof replacement or a new roof installed is a big job, but proper planning can streamline the process.

Step 1: Inspection. This will help us know what to expect when working on your roof, and can help you plan your budget and timelines for the replacement.

Step 2: Quote & Contract. Here, we will give you a quote (or several, depending on materials you’re interested in) of what the new roof will cost. This will also give you clarity on the timeline your roofing work will follow. Once you’ve selected the quote you want to move forward with, you sign the contract and move onto next steps.

Step 3: Materials selection. Based on your earlier conversations with us, you should have a good idea of what materials you are planning to use for your project. Here, you make final selections and work with the roofing contractors to ask any questions you may have. They will make recommendations within your quoted budget so you can feel confident in your decision.

Step 4: Permits. Many places require you to have appropriate permits before beginning the work of re-roofing. We will guide you through this process and make sure all the boxes are checked for a seamless and successful installation.

Step 5: Scheduling. We work with you to select a date that works best for our team to come in and do the installation. Timelines will depend on the scope of work (which includes the size of your roof and any damage that might need to be fixed). You might need to make minor preparations for this step, such as clearing the area around your home or relocating delicate items from the attic or upper floors.

Step 6: Removal and Installation. Our team will come in and remove any old roofing materials to make room for the new roofing build. At this stage, we will also do any repairs to the flashing, insulation, or underlayment.

Step 7: Finishing Touches. We seal joints and edges, apply required coatings, and complete other finishing touches.

Step 8: Clean up and Inspection: Our crew will remove any debris leftover from the project and do a final inspection to make sure that everything looks good. From there, you’re good to enjoy your new roof!

We are equipped to tackle roofs of various styles and designs. From flat roofs to roofs with a steep pitch, we work with our clients to bring their vision to life.

We offer an 8 year workmanship warranty for our roof services, which covers everything our team installs.

Certain roofing materials, such as shingles, also offer additional warranties. These are usually prorated for the first 10 years, and then depreciate from there.

The safety of our team and your property are top priority for our roofing team. At C&M Roofing, we have 5 million liability insurance, fall protection training, WCB, and a fully certified team.

We also use quality equipment and tools that have been maintained and that our team has been properly trained to use.

We pride ourselves on doing our part to create sustainable practice around the roofing industry.

A part of our roof replacement process involves recycling old shingles we have removed. Our team sorts out plastics, metals, and other materials until we are left with just asphalt. From there, we take the pile to the appropriate facility, where it is broken down and used for projects like paving or road repairs.

The process of taking materials to the recycling plant is the same process we would use if we were going to the dump. So, customers do not absorb any extra costs for recycling.

If sustainability and recycling are important to you, you can look into using recycling materials to shingle your roof. We have worked with suppliers and installed these in the past. Plus, these materials are often highly durable and can last for a lifetime.

The time it takes to complete a roof replacement depends on factors like roof size, materials used, and time of year. In general, larger roofs will take more time to replace, just like replacements in the winter will take longer than in the summer, due to weather conditions.

That said, you can expect the typical roof replacement to take anywhere from 1 to 5 days, depending on the material used and scope of work.

As a guideline, these are typical timelines:

Shingles: 1-2 days

Metal roofing : 2-3 days

Bigger projects: 3-5 days

Keeping on schedule is important for ensuring your life isn’t indefinitely disrupted, and can be critical to ensuring other contractors get in to do their work.

Although we don’t do solar panel installations, we have worked with customers who have installed solar panels in the past. If you are considering solar panels for your roof, our recommendation is that you think about getting your roof inspected beforehand.

Solar panels are designed to last for a long time, so you want to make sure that your roof can last at least as long. Leaks or damage can cause problems with your solar panels, so it’s best to be proactive. If you’re considering solar panels, contact our roofing team to discuss your options and set up an inspection.

The best way to extend the lifespan of your roof is to invest in a more durable material when getting a roof replacement done. More durable options, such as metal roofs, lifetime materials, or premium shingles, are more expensive, but extend the life of your roof by decades.

If that is not an option, some tips and tricks for taking care of your roof include:

  • – Getting regular inspections to check for damage
  • – Ensuring damage or leaks are promptly repaired
  • – Cleaning your gutters and downspouts to prevent moisture damage
  • – Removing debris that can trap moisture or encourage mold growth
